Tomi Ungerer Museum offers an insight into the European aspect of the illustrator’s work. Born in Strasbourg, the artist always has had strong ties to the idea of Europe. Its values of justice, tolerance and humanism always have been important for him. He put the focus on the importance of French-German relationships in the construction of Europe and Elsass’ particular role and place, due to its history. Ungerer’s satirical drawings also show Europe’s weaknesses. Original illustrations of his book Europolitain (1998) will be presented to the public unabridged and uncensored for the first time and put into the context of totalitariansm of the 1960s until today.
